Terrible customer service, especially from male (Pat or Rob)? Made me feel like I was not a customer, just a nuisance. Actual haircut was ok.

I'm extremely unhappy with my experience at this salon. I went for partial highlights which said $95+ online. The stylist made me leave with wet hair because apparently blow drying my hair wasn't included in the partial highlight. Then when I left they said my total was $175. WHAT?! $175 and they couldn't blow dry my hair?! Unacceptable. Don't come here.

Anne Welsh Salon is soooo Del Ray, Alexandria! Why? It's a glorious fusion of traditional with boho-so tastefully appointed, with a fun & funky artistic flair.gorgeously landscaped, with a charming wrap around porch to admire while your color sets and you recline in cozy Adirondack chairs. And my stylist?!?! Let me tell you. LOVE HER! Asma has gifted artistic instincts.with minimal direction, Asma hit a grand slam-perfect color! Further, she's a delightful conversant. Thrilled to have found my new hair colorist/stylist.

Great place! Very welcoming and friendly. I couldn't have asked for a better experience. Clean and sanitary. I felt totally safe and at ease. The hairdressers are very experienced. They are warm and make you feel like family.

Standard charge for hair cut and style, service is above average! This was my first time here and although I was 8 minutes late, staff was very kind and took time to offer a hot beverage. The shampoo/head massage was very soothing and relaxed me prior to chopping off half of my hair. Asma, my stylist, did an expert job creating layers that framed and flattered my face, I've never received so many compliments on a hair cut! I will return!

I've been going to the Anne Welsh Salon off and on for almost 10 years. The stylists there are highly skilled and knowledgeable and I always leave with a great cut and style. The salon itself is warm and welcoming - just like the people who work there. I could not recommend this salon highly enough!

I've been to this salon about 5 times. Before I say anything, I want to be clear that I love my stylist and I'm very happy with her. Without her, my review would be zero stars. OK, on to the rest of the review. I've never gotten out without spending any less than $190 on color and cut. Today was $215 (before tip). This is the highest I've ever paid in my life.

I used to go to someone in Tysons Corner that I loved and always charged $165 for the same service. The worst and most frustrating part is the parking. This place has a small square concrete slab for about 4 cars to park in. It's very difficult to even fit in this space to park straight. Then the street parking goes on and on for many blocks (it's Delray, say no more).

They should pave the 'yard' next to the house in order to provide adequate professional space for customers (after all, it is a business). I guess they don't do this because the owners live upstairs. I've got a couple of months to decide if I'll go back again. If I do, it's only because I like the stylist so much but the overall vibe is not right.

I went to Anne Welsh for four years and if this was for cuts and customer service, I'd give them 5/5. I went to Tiffany and she was amazing at working with my naturally wavy hair and my son's hair. Her sweet demeanor and ability to listen always left me with the perfect cut. The front desk staff were also amazing and extremely professional.

The 3/5 is because the salon raised kids' cuts basically to a price that would lead one to believe they did not want children as customers. That price was astronomical and we had to take our business elsewhere. Additionally, sometimes when I had the shampoo assistant wash my hair they made snarky comments to each other or other employees about my hair being dirty or having a lot of product. I'm a working mom and have a lot of hair and I don't go to a high end salon to be shamed about my hair. I left because I wanted a neighborhood salon for the family.

JESS at Anne Welsh Salon is my HAIR HERO! She saved me from another salon's (@magnumopussalon) hideous highlights and hopeless hair ruin! Before and after photos of her color correction are attached. I made the mistake of going to another salon (Magnum Opus Salon in Arlington) after moving to Arlington, and thought I would try something closer.

Bad bad bad decision! I requested natural blending light ash blonde highlights and complementary low lights. But instead, that other salon gave me huge chunky brassy platinum bleached highlights offset by dark auburn one-inch-thick chunky lowlights a shade below and warmer than my natural color. The result was atrocious: my daughter said I "looked like a bumble bee" and friends I confided in joked that the botched highlights looked like a "zebra striped punk rocker." As a professional 40-something working mom, that was certainly not the look I requested or wanted.

I called Anne Welsh Salon as soon as they opened the next business day, and begged for an appointment to fix the travesty that was my hair. I couldn't even pull it back in a ponytail bc the sides were so blotchy and uneven and had lines of demarcation that looked even worse! The perpetrator of the hair crime offered to try again, but there was no way I was going to let him touch a hair on my head ever again!

Enter my Hair Hero Jess at Anne Welsh. Jess wasted no time and flew into action. After getting over her initial shock and disbelief at what the other colorist did to my hair (along with some colorful commiserations), she reassured me that she would take as much time as necessary and do whatever it took make me feel beautiful and less "bee-like" again. 4.5 Hours, five different shades of highlights and lowlights, and 200+ foils later, my hair was back to normal.

In fact, it was even better than normal. It was natural, blended and what I wanted! It was a hair miracle! It took painstaking skill and artful precision to accomplish what Jess did. And at the end of the day she even sent me home with a bunch of amazing Bumble and Bumble products to care for my traumatized tresses. Hair hero, I promise to never stray again! Jess, you rock! Thank you!

I only go to this salon because it is close to my home. If there was another salon within walking distance, I would immediately switch to it. I have been a customer of this salon for at least ten years and have watched the service go downhill. I recently had an appointment with Jessica and was astounded when I walked in and the receptionists greeted me with the most dismal hello I have ever heard.

Their hellos indicated that I was not worth their time and that they would have preferred doing anything else other than their job. I think I even spotted a rolling eye from one of the receptionists when I stated that I had an appointment. For this appointment, I had Jessica. She did an excellent job styling my hair and I got the look that I specifically wanted; however, the entire time that I was there, she smelled heavily of cigarettes and again looked as if I was wasting her time. Overall, my hair cut was great -- probably not worth the price but still a hair cut that I wanted. However, the service really put me off. Though there are plenty of nice stylists at this establishment, I unfortunately must have experienced the worst of the batch.

I really like this salon. I typically have my hair done by Tiffany, though I have seen other stylists when Tiffany has been booked. The staff are very nice and serve you a beverage once you have a seat. I've never had a bad haircut experience!

I wish I could give zero stars. This was by far one of the worst salon's I have ever been to. The stylist convinced me to get a hair color I didn't want and then I ended up hating what my hair looked like. I think it was about 300 dollars for a hair service I didn't even want. I will never go back!

I, and many friends, have been going to this salon for many years. A beautiful salon in a wonderful location. Patty is amazing. Though I have never needed to go back for a "correction, " I know that they welcome that if it is needed.

After years of being misunderstood by underpaid barbers I decided to treat myself to a cut at this veritable hair temple in Del Ray. This place has style and I was treated like a regular despite it being my first time there. The front desk staff offered me coffee while I waited. I did not have an appointment, but the wait for a stylist was only 15 minutes even though they appeared quite busy.

A cut comes with the full service treatment, starting with a very relaxing shampoo and scalp massage for which they have an entire room in this converted Victorian dedicated. My stylist understood exactly what I wanted, was able to give some shampoo recommendations (without pushing the salon's own pricey products too hard) and was a good conversationalist to boot. If you find yourself needing above-and-beyond hair services in Del Ray look no further than Anne Welsh.

I had an awesome experience at Anne Welsh! It was my first time there. I had Jess as a hairdresser. She did an amazing job with my super tricky wavy, thick hair. Can't wait to see her again in a few weeks! Highly recommend!

I really enjoy going to Anne Welsh. It is always warm, abuzz, and my stylist, Gretchen is so very skilled, and got my hair back to healthy after a rough experience at another salon. The shampoo alone is a treat, with the most nurturing head massage while looking at a fabulous sky mural. They pay attention to the details there. Very wonderful salon!

Worth every penny! As soon as I walked in, I knew this would be an excellent place to get my hair cut. I signed in at the desk and the receptionist offered me a freshly made cappuccino! I sipped the delicious drink while i waited on my hairstylist. As soon as it was my appointment time, my stylist came and introduced herself and sat and talked to me for a few minutes about what I wanted done.

She helped me figure out what would look best with my face shape and hair type, and suggested a few things. Then she took me to be shampooed. The shampoo girl spent a solid 10 minutes shampooing and massaging my head! I'm surprised I did not fall asleep! Once shampooed, Tiffany began to cut my hair. She took her time and did not rush, asking me throughout if this was correct and how I wanted my hair.

When she finished styling it.my jaw dropped. This really may be one of the most flattering hair cuts I have ever received. I was a little hesitant to spend $75 on a hair cut, but I can tell you I will be back, and often. The entire experience was fantastic and Tiffany is one of the best hair stylists i've ever had.

After spending all morning reading reviews on salons in northern virginia, I decided to take the leap and try Anne Welsh Salon. I called Tuesday and they were able to squeeze me in with Gretchen on Friday morning. I was a bit nervous because I didn't see many reviews about Gretchen, only other stylists. I was NOT disappointed! Gretchen did an amazing job and gave me the haircut I wanted.

I brought in a picture and we tailored the haircut/style to suit my needs and my hair texture. I love it and have gotten so many compliments! This salon was very busy Friday morning. I was shocked at how busy this place was. I recommend you make an appointment before you go!

I tried different hair salons for about 2 years until finding Anne Welsh Salon. The front desk staff are always friendly and attentive, offering to get you a drink and to take your coat the moment you walk in. Between street parking in the neighborhood behind the building and the small parking lot they have I never have trouble finding parking. Tiffany is my hair dresser and I really like her!

I have thick, frizzy, wavy hair that I always straighten with a hair iron. By the time I found Tiffany I was ready for a change and wanted to learn how to wear my hair naturally. She's worked with me a lot over the past year to help me find the products and techniques that work best for me. It is certainly pricey but not much more pricey than the other places I've tried in the area. And considering the friendly staff, head massage, cozy atmosphere and quality service I think it's worth it.

My hair? So.fucking. CUTE. I honestly look a decade younger (which, at my age, is A+++ awesome.) Ask for Gretchen for high impact, low maintenance hair, with a side order of hilarious conversation. Seriously, cutest haircut ever and looks great even when I let my hair dry naturally. Salon - which is a beautiful historic (victorian?) home - is in Del Ray, just a few blocks from St. Elmo's coffee shop and Dairy Godmother.

The attached parking lot is very small, but plenty of street parking. Warm and welcoming staff (offered me coffee and/or water as soon as I walked in), and even in my jeans and UChicago hoodie, I didn't feel out of place even though it's obviously a pricey and supernice salon. Gretchen asked me what I wanted to do, how I styled my hair (short answer: I don't.

I don't always blowdry either and just bundle my hair up in a bun), and my concerns. I wanted cute arched bangs and layers to minimize my fat face. She delivered; my hair is stupid adorable. And I can say I honestly enjoyed sitting there, chatting with Gretchen about thanksgiving, catering and weddings. So pleased to find a really great salon so close to my place (and so close to Dairy Godmother.)

I have been a customer of this salon for years. Last year I was struggling with two terminally ill parents and my own host of health problems (which included multiple lumpectomy procedures). I was routinely frustrated with AWS (starting late on appointments, consistently ruining my color because the formula wasn't recorded correctly, rude front desk staff, etc.) but continued to go back because of Heather and Patty and honestly because the thought of finding another salon while pregnant (which happened after all of the health concerns were resolved).

I had heard from several employees while there that the owners were moody, indifferent, and created a very difficult (somewhat miserable) working environment for them. My only direct experience with either of them was when my hair color was not applied correctly (and it took several additional hours to sort out) and the girl (Tiffany) that was applying my color got it all over my clothes and burned the skin on my face by leaving the color on my eyebrows too long -- was when the husband emailed me to offer to pay the dry-cleaning bill for my damaged clothes.not offering an apology for the burns, the time, the money, nothing.and at that point I knew I was not long for the world of Anne Welsh Salon. Well, today the owner called me to say she couldn't honor my appointment tomorrow because I had had too many missed or changed/cancelled appointments over the last year.

The last year (mind you) that I was routinely being pulled take care of an ill parent or recovering from surgery myself and that I was no longer welcome to be customer of the salon. I found it interesting that she could find the time to personally call me for something like this but not otherwise. I think it is very telling of the way they run their business.

I thoroughly enjoyed my first experience at Anne Welsh! The atmosphere was very calming, and bright! My stylist, Tiffany, was delightful! She listened to what kind of cut I wanted, and asked questions as the process went along to make sure I was getting just what I wanted. The cut turned out to be one of my all time favorites! A couple highlights: they send you text-message appointment reminders, and don't mind adding the tip to your card! This salon is a great find for anyone who doesn't mind spending a little more (my cut was $75) for great quality! I definitely plan on being a regular at Anne Welsh.

I travel 4800 miles to get my hair cut. I followed my hairstylist, Dominique, from Old Town to a salon out in the 'burbs of Maryland. Then I moved to Hawaii, scoured the Yelp reviews to find a stylist who could do short hair, gave up, and decided I would only get my hair cut when I went home to DC. Thankfully, Dominique is back in Alexandria at Anne Welsh.

The salon is in a cute old house right on the main drag in Del Ray. On a freezing cold day in December, the ambience inside was warm and welcoming. They use bumble&bumble products which have always been good with fine hair. Dominique is still great with my hair, no matter what kind of phase I'm going through (right now "beach-y short"). Until I bite the bullet with a stylist in Honolulu, I'll keep on going here to get my hair cut.

I spent about one sixty five for a cut, style, and all over/single process color. I expect it to be excellent. It was average. The cut was far too conservative (even after tell her explicitly what I wanted). The service was a bit chaotic (I was there mid week, in the afternoon). The atmosphere is charming, but doesn't make up for the mediocre service and sub-par hair cut. I clearly am not afraid to pay for a cut/color, but I am sticking with Hair Cuttery (you heard me right) in Shirlington. I have yet to be let down from them.
