When I was 12 I started cutting my little sister's hair. Then later my friends and family. I ended up going to school for Men's tailoring, but never stop doing hair on the side. I meet my sweet husband in Prague. We become best friends and a year later were married. He kidnaped me shortly after and I moved to the USA.

Great salon! I love the natural soft lighting and all the plants! They have a cute little rooftop garden and it's very good if you get overwhelmed by bright salon lights like I do. The staff is kind and helpful and all the stylists did a great job! It's also relatively affordable. Overall 5 stars!

Misa is a gem. It's always amazing to hang out with her and she's great with hair and listening to what I need. Their COVID response has been excellent as well, and I feel confident going there and minimizing exposure of myself and others.

I found this fantastic salon through a co worker. I have loved it from the first day I came in. They have been extremely kind to me. They have cut my curly hair in a way that I can grow it and it can be tamed and attractive. A lot of stylists used to cut off my hair since they did not want to deal with curls because they did not know how to work with it.

First I had a hair dresser Kirsten Landsverk and she was so great. After a few years she had to depart and she was so careful and thoughtful about the next stylist she gave me to. She gave me to Misa West who has been just as perfect as Kirsten. They really care about you here. I actually look forward to catching up with Misa as much as I look forward to getting my hair done. Misa is very good at coloring and shaping and helping me to grow my hair.

She is a great listener too which is a great added benefit. The manager of the Salon is also very friendly and welcoming. I will Come here as long as they will have me as a customer. Sara Hohn

Tamara has consistently made my experience amazing. She continually teaches me new things about my hair I didn't know. It is more than a salon visit. It's an investment in the health of my hair! I am never disappointed when I leave, only that the pampering is over, but the joy I get in all the compliments out in public make the salon pampering last just a tad bit longer. GO SEE TAMARA!

She is a treasure. The evolution of the salon is so beautiful to watch. The JUNGLE of plants is so wonderful. Makes you feel at one with all the wonderful Davine's product ingredients, that are so clean earth focused. The space is welcoming, and light radiates throughout the space to make you feel like you are on display for your very own fashion show, or just enveloped in a hug from great smells, amazing energy, and did I mention plants?! Each plant is like a client's hair. I love finding which one is me, in whatever mood I feel that day. GO PLAY AT ARABELLA!

The new space is warm and welcoming. Carole helped save my hair from some terrible shampoo that was taking all of the life and vitality out of it. With her suggestions and advice, my hair is as vibrant as it has ever been. And the cut itself was exactly what I was looking for. Will be a repeat customer!

Why aren't there more stars? :-) This is really a SIX STAR rating. Misa (the Magician) is absolutely my new gal! My cut is only 2 hours old and already I feel like I will not be able to wait long to go back. Lovely salon, lovely lady, lovely service, fantastic freaking hair. Great conversation, Misa. And thanks for the pro hair care & styling tips.

Even when I have no idea what to do with my hair, the stylists at Arabella do & it ends up looking amazing. Peaceful, relaxing, atmosphere with fantastic products & top stylists. If I could give more stars I would.

Greatest experience of my life. Misa is the greatest there ever was. If you have had terrible salon experiences (odds are you have) - she feels your pain, knows first hand what it's like dealing with a horrible color correction, or earful hair cut. She restores the faith and is warm, charming, smart, and reassuring. My hair was ragged, effed up ugly hair cut.

And Misa said (among many other things) "you'll be amazed at what a good haircut can do" love my cut and she toned my hair to dreamy brown perfection from it's weird orange fluff state. She is great, you will not regret working with her. The salon is darling as well, little upstairs loft thang.

Amazing salon! I had extremely damaged and over processed hair that was in bad shape and Deanna made me feel like royalty and had me leaving with a whole new head of hair! Love my cut and am so thankful for her talent to turn my crazy hair from rough and unmanageable to soft and bouncy! Thanks Deanna!

Best. Haircut. Ever. I recently got my hair cut here by Allyson Short. She did such an amazing job! I've gotten haircuts in the past that I was unhappy with because they were difficult to style, or the stylist didn't recognize certain features about my hair or hairline or how I like to do my hair on a regular basis. Allyson got ALL of this right!

Even 3-4 weeks after my haircut it's growing out well, and still able to easily style. I've gotten more compliments than I've ever gotten before about my hair since she's been cutting my hair. For as long as I live in Portland I'll be going to Allyson for my hair. Hands down, she's the best. Now do yourself a frickin service and schedule an appointment!

Love Arabella salon! Perched up above MLK with great views and a really good vibe. Tessa H. is a hair goddess and makes my thin hair look full and healthy! I don't have the best hair, but I always leave looking better and feeling good. Tessa is warm, funny and easy to talk to. The salon has great products, too! There is easy parking.

You know how you have an idea in your head of what you think your hair looks like? And then you look in the mirror and it's soooo not that? Libby makes my hair the color I always thought was growing out of my head. She knows her reds & totally understood my phobia of turning my reddish hair orange or maroon. Her cuts grow out so beautifully, I usually forget I need one. And I'm now devoted to Davines products. Hook, line & sinker. I'm an Arabella/Libby/Davines fangirl.

I called this place on a Wednesday in need of an emergency hair appointment and they got me in the next day! Tessa fixed my hair from a different hair salons mistake. She used four different dyes to bring me back to one solid color. I've never been more happy with my hair! She did an amazing job, thank you Tessa!

I'm so excited to find my go-to salon, finally. I've only lived here for 17 years! It feels like a little treetop hideaway, which I find enormously appealing. The space is unique- you go up a narrow flight of stairs, and enter what feels like a secret beauty aerie. Brick and wood, lovely light, antique vanities, high ceilings, and a lush rooftop garden up a flight of stairs. It's cozy and welcoming and not at all uptight.

The people are lovely. Lucius is a doll, and I actually enjoyed our banter- something I usually dread when visiting salons. I found their prices more than reasonable. And most importantly, my hair looks great!

I have been going to Arabella for over 2 years now and I consistently get great compliments on my hair. Cuts are perfect every time, and the Davines products are the absolute best. I am a regular with Piper for cuts and styling for my thick, wavy, silver mane. And when I needed a brush out in between, as with a recent photo shoot for work, I went to Allyson, who did a beautiful job of it. I have seen some sharp looking guys getting their haircuts there too!

I love this place. I see Desiree for getting waxed and she does an amazing job! Very considerate about times, and willing to work with you. Uses many different kinds of waxes so that it will be less painful. Like really, I hardly even notice when she does it. And has many kinds of oils that help sooth your legs once it's all done. Its kinda hard to find and very sketchy walking up the stairs, but once you're in the door you'll be surprised at how adorable this place is! 5/5

This is a beautiful salon with an experienced, but hip group of cosmetologist. They're super nice and often booked. So call ahead. Salon is upstairs in an open-air beautiful old space. It's sophisticated, but has friendly feel.

Alex at Arabella was simply charming, professional, and everything I'd hoped for when I first made the appointment. I'd been living in Portland 5 months and dragging my feet about finding a new salon/stylist; meanwhile, my curly, fine hair had become a dry, frizzy, disaster. I was long overdue for some professional pampering. Alex graciously accommodated some hiccups in my schedule, and I finally arrived at Arabella; greeted and made to feel right at home immediately. Alex quickly gathered an idea of what I wanted, noted the quirks my hair presented, and went to work, transforming my frizz-bomb into a manageable, beautiful mane. I'll definitely return for color, cut, and maintenance advice.

I'm 30. I've never once in those years, ONCE had a regular stylist. I'm one of those, jump from salon to salon in search of the (previously thought) non-existent stylist who would just do exactly what I wanted. And I never really blamed the stylists who couldn't read my mind - because let's face it, I don't have the hair-vocabulary to convey my vision.

I would show pictures, and they would fail. Then I would move on to the next trendy/highly praised location. Until, *ray of sun beams down on me at this moment* I found Marci at Arabella. I've gone to Marci for about a year now - and she has not let me down. I've changed styles, from my usual (and so I've been told, pretty difficult cut) A-line / one layered bob (she taught me that lingo, athankyou), to shaving one side of my head, to a 60s style bob - and each style, she's mastered.

Even doing better than I thought. I can't stress this enough: I AM ONE OF THOSE OBNOXIOUS PEOPLE WHO IS NEVER HAPPY WITH THEIR CUT. Not anymore. I'm not sure what Ritu K. is talking about also - I have super thin hair and the razor doesn't give me frizzy ends. Further - and no offense - but I sorta doubt that the hair was uneven (Marci is a perfectionist).

As for the salon, it's cool. Vintage vanities for the stylists to work in front of. All the ladies are really nice. Clean, brick interior, quality products, nothing crazy special, but Marci makes it a perfect five for me!

I really tried to avoid writing this review as I hate mucking a bunch of 5 star reviews but my haircut was no bueno. Marci was awesome. Very friendly, totally listened to my hair gripes and tried to work with my texture, really I loved her. The problem lay with my cut. She used a razor which gives me a ton of frizzy ends. Even with all the right styling products the razored ends frizz out with my thin hair. That's really not a big deal, the deal breaker for me was that my cut was uneven.

The left side is longer than the right and its pretty obvious. I've waited months to write this review in the hopes I was hallucinating the whole thing, but sadly no, the cut is very uneven and very obviously uneven. I'm sad- I was hoping this would be my go to place.

I have been searching for a good stylist in Portland for ages. I have gone to a zillionty salons and haven't really clicked with any of them. I have become so reluctant to get my hair cut, that by the time I try again, I come in with a mass of crazy, frizzy. uh. Dense. Hair. And I'm like, please, for the love of god, fix this. The last time I did that, the only hair stylist I trust, who sadly lives in Los Angeles asked me if I cut my hair myself. Anyway, with trepidation in my heart I set an appointment with Libby and crossed my fingers.

I wasn't disappointed. Libby shaped and thinned the crazy bulky forest of hair into a beautiful and complementary haircut, all while being super pleasant! Another thing I liked about this place is that Libby gave me samples of hair products rather than just saying, well this $100 conditioner will be perfect for your hair type. I'm down for buying hair products, but it is tiring to get the sales pitch and then have it not work out for you after spending a ton on fancy shampoo. Lastly -- the stairway is a little hidden so look out for it!

I've got very curly hair, that is curlier in some spots than others. It's also fine. All these things make it very tricky to cut right. I went to Arabella and saw Pipper after having a haircut a month prior that I was less than enthused about (kept hoping it would look ok when it grew out, but nay!). She set it right, and made me believe that my hair can look good again!

She was pleasantly chatty, but not overly so. The salon as a whole is in an awkward location, but once you find your way through the front door, it's super inviting. Warm lighting, windows that allow natural light, comfortable shampoo sinks, etc. There doesn't seem to be any awkward drama between anyone that works there, which is super awesome (and really, really hard to find!).

I know they won some award for being super eco friendly, but they certainly didn't sacrifice any of their sense of luxury to accomplish that, which makes all the more impressive.
