Balayage is a French word meaning "to paint". A Balayage treatment is essentially hair painting. The Hair Stylist paints color onto chunky sections of the hair or a few strands. When a hair colorist is coloring the hair, the majority of the brush strokes are horizontal to coat the front and back of the hair strands.

Eli's Salon is a good safe place to have your hair done. Masks are required and they are careful to schedule one or two people at a time. Their work is terrific.

I went in to see Yolla about a week ago for a cut and color and couldn't be happier! I'm extremely picky with my hair, as I've had terrible experiences, but Yolla listened to everything I wanted and delivered it perfectly. I will definitely be back! Thank you, Yolla

Wherever I go, in this state, out of state, and out of country, I am literally stopped and my hair color and cut is fawned over by men and women, husbands and their wives. Crazy. Testament that Eli knows his stuff. His work is appreciated, and he is just crazy good. Thanks Eli!

Rodolfo made me feel welcome. We chatted for a while about correcting my hair color. The resulting correction was perfect. Thank you.

I went to Rodolpho at Eli Salon on the recommendation of a friend who has been getting her hair cut there for years. I wasn't disappointed. I was tired of going to the same chain place where the stylists get you in and out. I am generally low-maintenance and get my hair cut two or three times a year, but I am still in the process of trying to fix my hair after a previous stylist messed it up a couple years ago, and Rodolpho took the time to talk through the pros and cons of the haircut that I was looking for.

He made sure that I understood that if I wanted my hair a certain way, it would take a number of inches off, look a certain way, and make sure that was what I wanted. Throughout the haircut, he checked in with me and adjusted to what I needed. I definitely appreciated the effort that he took and it shows.

I went to Eli Salon for the very first time today and loved it! I am very picky with my cut and blonde color and Yola did a fantastic job! She listened to exactly what I wanted and took her time with my hair. The salon is a hidden gem in a little shopping center which I never noticed before. I will definitely be going back!

I've been looking for a salon that I could trust with my hair and skin for quite some time now. I met a few people who highly recommend Eli (for hair) and Golshan (for facials, eyebrows etc). I decided to check it out and I'm very happy I did. Eli knew exactly what to do with my hair and he listened to exactly what I was looking for. He knows exactly what he is doing and he is very nice! I recommend this salon.

GREATEST SALON! Eli cut my hair perfectly! I am very very very picky and he listened to exactly what I wanted. I only like my dead ends cut and usually stylists will cut off so much! But he just trimmed what I needed and gave me lovely long layers. My hair is still super healthy after 3 months! I was very happy with my experience at this salon. Eli was very funny too! Great place with great personality. Definitely would recommend.

Eli is my "go to" hair stylist. I've been going to him for more than 10 years. Everyone else I've gone to around here just doesn't compare. Eli always makes me look my best and that is not an easy task! The color is fantastic and the man is an artist with hair. not just a good artist. one of the greats! He could be in New York City making a whole lot more money and yet he stays in Virginia. Lucky for us who know about him! His staff is wonderful, too!

Eli Salon is a fantastic hair salon! I have been going to them for quite some time now and would recommend them to anyone who cares about their cuts and wants them to be done just the way they describe. The prices are great, they do what you ask and never do anything less than amazing cuts. I used to have so many issues with hair stylist cutting my bangs too short, making them too thick, or chopping off more than I asked (I have long hair that I have worked hard to grow out over the years). Check them out, you will be glad you did.

I have been on a saga searching for a hair stylist who can really give me a great cuts. I found May today at Eli Salon. I wear my hair short and I have to cover a vitiligo spot on my forehead. May is experience, friendly, put people at ease and feeling comfortable with her. If she wasn't tied up with a customer before me that ran my appointment late for 20 min., I would have given her 5 stars.

My husband and I just moved to Northern VA about a month ago and when it was finally time to get my hair done, I had no idea where to go. I asked a couple of women in my neighborhood, and they told me to go to Eli's Salon and ask for Yolla. Yolla had been coloring and cutting their hair for years, and they trusted her with their hair, so I went on to make an appointment with her for full highlights and a hair cut. Yolla is a very nice lady and she made me feel very welcome in the salon.

Most importantly, my hair turned out to look GREAT when she was done working on it. I am extremely pleased with the highlights and the haircut that Yolla did & I'm so glad I chose her to fix my hair up! I will be seeing her again very soon! Thank you so much!

I have been going to Eli's Salon for 28 years and have never been disappointed. You will receive personal service in an efficient manner. I have received compliments on my haircut countless times, even from complete strangers. You can't miss at Eli's!

Viv is THE best for waxing, mani's and pedis. She specializes in Brazillian waxes and is super fast (aka less pain!). I've never met anyone that can make my manis and pedis last as long as Viv. Go to her and i promise you will keep on returning!

I have been a client of May for several years. She is a highly talented stylist and colorist whom I trust implicitly. I have changed my cut and color several times, all the while with her frank and sober assessment of my ideas (what cut works with my facial structure, lifestyle; colors that flatter my skin tone). I have recommended her to several friends, all of whom have gone to and stayed with May--a true testament to her talents.

I love this Salon, but you HAVE to go to Eli. First time I went here, I made the mistake and went to another girl - not a fan of the job she did. I had heard good things about Eli though, so I decided to give it one more shot and booked WITH ELI - sooooo much better experience! He did a great job on my hair. A LITTLE on the pricey side for my taste - cut/style is usually about $65, bur I keep going back, so must be worth it.

Rodolpho has cut my hair for years. I used to drive from Sterling into Arlington to get my hair cut here. I did get tired of that drive, and took about a 4 year hiatus from him, but since moving back to Arlington, I'm back to Rodolpho. As a guy, I don't want to spend too much time explaining what I want done to it, but don't want to go to a barber because I like a stylist's touch better. He'll typically ask me if I want to do anything different, and when I say "No", that's all we have to say about hair.

Occasionally I'll say "Yes", but often don't know what I want to do different, and he isn't afraid to experiment, and I have the confidence in him to let him. Of course over so many years, we feel like friends, and we can talk about real things rather than typical small talk BS. My preference when getting my hair cut, is either no talk. or real talk. I've got no interest in boring small talk.

Those of you who prefer little or no talking, might try Joe (a friend of mine sees him and is happy with his work). Rodolpho is a talker though, so stay away if that bothers you. Anna the shampoo lady has been there for as long as I've been going there (about 10 years), and while she may come across gruff until you get to know her, she is a sweetheart underneath. Don't forget to stuff her jar with a couple dollars. you will get a better massage with the shampoo when she knows you'll reward her!

The other stylists all seem friendly, and are probably equally talented (possibly better, I wouldn't know). In the 10 years I've been going to Eli's Salon, there has been zero turnover amongst stylists. and only once or twice amongst the receptionist.

I went for a color and was very dissapointed. I'm blonde and the color came out darker than I had wanted inspite of bringing a big pix of the color. I went back and he re-did the color, but then I had very dry hair for a long time. As another poster mentioned, the prices are comparible with d.c. so it's not cheap. The interior is.think your grandma's salon. Old and dated and a tad dirty. Yuck factor there. While he is nice, I won't go back. I want it right the first time.

I read and re-read the reviews on Joe Awad. I made an appointment in Dec 2007 for a highlight and cut. The highlights did come out beautiful, but he did not get the haircut right. I showed him some photos which he said would work with my hair, thick, but fine and natural blonde--at that time below or at shoulder length. The haircut he gave me the first time was so-so --too much product in my fine hair--I had to go home and wash it and restyle it.

So I let it grow out--my hair grows one inch a month--no kidding and at the end of January 08 I went back for a trim. Now the first time I presumed he just did not know how to work with my hair, but the second time--he totally butchered the cut and I was NOT happy when I left the salon--it looked better grown out from the first time. No sytle really.

Now granted, he is a fairly nice guy and this is a family salon where kids to adults frequent and many patrons told me they have come most of their adult lives to Joe's brother. For me, however he only rates two stars considering I travelled from DC to try him out based on other reviews and for the prices he charges-- not any cheaper than DC.

Because he did the highlights so well I have considered going back just for that--but I am now reconsidering. His award for best hairstylist which he displays is several years old by the way. I noticed he does best with women who have very long hair and are young 20 somethings--I am 45. I feel that the other positve ratings are overblown--he is okay for an average hairstylist--the salon is very homey, but if you want a really to die for haircut --forget it.

It's official. I have a bowl cut. The short story: The staff and stylists at Eli's are unskilled, rude, unprofessional, arrogant, and certainly unaware of style. The long story: My boyfriend purchased a gift card to Eli's Salon for my birthday. In the past, I searched far and wide around the DC area for a great stylist (found one at Celadon Spa in downtown), but the price for a haircut, albeit great one, cost an arm and a leg and I was therefore returning to Celadon for trims at an average rate of once per year. So, I decided to find a less expensive salon, where I could go for regular maintenance. Hence, Eli's Salon.

I went to Eli's for the first time yesterday. To set the scene: I was not greeted upon entering the salon, and I waited 30 minutes before somebody acknowledged my appointment. The assistant walked me over to Eli, who took a quick glance at my hair, and asked "is this ALL you are here for? ALL this for a haircut?". I immediately realized that Eli is not a charming fellow - he is RUDE. But, I decided to stay and get the cut because, after all, the SOUP NAZI on Seinfeld is a great place for soup, even if the service sucks. Eli proceeds to chop my hair.to shreds.

Not only did he neglect to assess my hair for its texture and thickness (and head shape) before pouncing into the cut, but he also ARROGANTLY proclaimed that, "I know your hair, I have been sitting behind this chair for 25 years." This was his preface before chopping my hair to a length just below my chin -- a length that any amateur stylist would know is NOT a good place given my thick hair texture.not only is the cut too short for my hair texture, but it's also crooked.

He sloppily chopped and trimmed and chopped and trimmed and NEVER listened to my comments/feedback/hesitations. Instead of listening to his client, Eli assumed all knowledge. I believe he thinks he can see THROUGH his eyelids, because I swear his eyes were closed or turned away for half of the time. Scary enough, I noticed that everyone at the salon had the same haircut.

Do not come here unless you want to look like Jane (or Astro) from the 'The Jetsons'. It's official. I have a CROOKED bowl cut. I am going back to Celadon Spa.
