I specifically sought out this salon for the Deva Cut (curly cut) and asked to have the least amount possible cut off. I highly value my curls and get complimented on them regularly. Today I walked out with hair a half foot shorter than I requested and so much product in my hair that it looks like I haven't showered in days. I expressed to my stylist that my hair was shorter than anticipated and the layering was not as expected.

She replied by stating that I can get it done differently next time. I paid $115 plus tip to be told I can get the hair cut I actually wanted next time. Literally cried in the parking lot for 15 min before driving home. Don't waste your money here.

I made an appointment and when I went in I could not find the salon right away. I was exactly 4 minutes late for my appointment. the receptionist told me my stylist would not see me even though there was only one other person in the salon and two stylists just sitting talking to each other. Upon entering I was baffled when the receptionist took one look up from her cell phone long enough to tell me I couldn't be seen rolled her eyes and went back to her phone.

That is not the way you do business if you want to continue to be in business. Update: You're establishment most certainly DOES turn away customers Ed. I go by my middle name Caroline and I was most certainly there and VERY rudely turned away.

Visited just now. A stylist named Sarah helped me to revamp my hairstyle. She is very helpful and patient in explaining everything I need to take care of. Great experience with great price. Strongly recommended.

Worst place I have been so far. Very bad hair cut and overpriced. They charge $140 for the hair cut and styling for neck length hair. Asked for steps. she cut the hair and blow dry styling. I see no layers after the 1st head wash. Services: Hair colouring, Highlights, Haircut

Called 2.5 weeks ahead of time to schedule a blowout/curl and makeup application for my prom. I was able to book the blowout right away but the lady on the phone said that she'd need to talk to her manager about bringing in a makeup artist (my prom was on a Monday which I appreciate is an odd day). I was told I'd be called back but didn't hear anything so I called again three days later, to which I was promised a phone call that day. Again, didn't hear anything, so I called for a third time four days later, to which I still didn't receive an answer and was told that a manager had to be called later that day.

I understand that a Monday makeup appointment is an unusual request and that the salon has a third-party makeup artist, so the delay in a response is understandable, but it was slightly frustrating that I had to call three times to find out if the makeup artist was available, especially since time was running out to book a backup option in case the artist ended up being unavailable.

It seemed like only the managers were able to schedule makeup appointments which is weird considering it's one of the services listed on the website. I would have appreciated more clarity regarding the makeup appointment/a call back updating me on the situation. Had to cancel the appointment and find somewhere else based on the last-minute nature of the situation.

I've always said the way to determine a great hair stylist is how your hair grows out. Carolann cut my hair 7 months ago. I haven't been out due to Covid. I'm STILL receiving compliments on this haircut.

I had my hair highlighted and cut with Megan today. Megan was waiting to greet me when I arrived and took time to ask me what kind of color and cut I was looking for. She provided creative suggestions which I loved. She took extra time to provide a deep relaxing and healing scalp massage. The color and cut turned out even better than I had imagined and I walked out feeling like a new person. The salon was clean and the other staff members were kind and friendly. Megan's creativity and love for what she does is so apparent and appreciated.

I recommended this salon to a friend new in the Princeton area. She made an appointment for her son, and went there with her two kids, hoping somebody would be available to cut the bangs for her little girl too. She didn't know the entrance is from the mall. They don't give details about their exact location on their website. She said it took her a while to find them in the mall, and she was 5-8 minutes late.

When she realized she is gonna be late trying to find the entrance, she called them. They told her she was late, and she cannot see the hair stylist anymore. She still went there and rescheduled. She said the salon looked empty, except for the 2 front desk girls who could have not cared less. I have to say that I was surprised to hear that she was sent back home because she was 5-8 minutes late.

Usually people are more accommodating when they deal with moms with kids, or new clients who don't know the exact location and get lost. It definitely happened to me with no kids on tow, but I was never kicked out because I was 5-8 minutes late. I guess the salon has enough clients, and they don't care about getting new ones, so I will stop recommending this place.

Be sure to confirm pricing if you have curls and are planning to get a DevaCut. I brought my daughter and was very caught off guard at the $125 (including tip) I was charged for my 8yr old. I have never been charged that much for a child's cut in either New York or San Francisco so I didn't think to check ahead of time. My mistake! The cut is nice but I've liked others more that were far less expensive.

I can't justify that price for an 8yr old and wish they had double checked that I understood the pricing. I'm posting here in case there are others who are considering getting a child's cut who may not have realized the price is the same as an adult.

The owner and staff at Mystique Hair Salon have been professional and highly conscientious over these last several month in 2020 since reopening was possible. Prior to the pandemic, I had frequented this business for years and was consistently satisfied with their services. Since the challenges of COVID, I have continued to utilize their services and have felt safe and comfortable in their salon and with the staff. I would highly recommend this establishment.

I've been going to Mystique salon for over 15 years. From prom to my wedding day, the salon has never let me down. My family and bridesmaids all had their hair done here for our wedding. Everyone was impressed with the professionalism and COVID precautions. My makeup was FANTASTIC (thank you, Fatima) and my curls lasted all night long, even a month after the wedding, people look at the photos are so impressed with how well my hair held up (thank you, Jane).

Carol Ann is amazing - her understanding of color, hair style has served me well over the last four years. My family love how she innately knows hair-thin and thick and applies all her knowledge to make us look great. Salon is super clean and well set up for sanitizing all surfaces. Ideally located in the Market Fair mall, feel safe going there.

My stylist Brianna was extremely patient and showed me the different cuts she could do for my hair. Brianna was amazing as she was considerate of my curly hair and had great technique. Overall, she was amazing but, she did forget to angle my hair as I asked. Lastly, I was charged $60 for the haircut itself which is very overpriced. On a side note, I loved the ambiance of thee mall and salon itself.

I decided to give this place a try because they're ranked highly on the Brazilian Blowout website, but it was a complete waste of money. I got the blowout done about a month ago and it already looks and feels like it never happened, even though it's supposed to last about 12 weeks. I've even been using the special shampoo and conditioner they convinced me to buy which is supposed to help it last a little longer. I've had it done in other salons that were ranked lower than Mystique and it has lasted much longer from them, so not sure what went wrong.

I had also asked for a haircut and didn't realize until I got home that night, showered and dried my hair that one side is significantly shorter than the other. I spent a total of $360 between the blowout, haircut, shampoo and conditioner, and that's not including tip, and it was a complete waste of money, my hair was 100% better off before I went. Very disappointed. I'm only giving it two starts because I went the day they reopened after the Covid closures and they were very clean and on top of sanitation.

I had my first Mystique salon visit since March, and I was anxious about precautions that would be implemented in light of COVID-19. As soon as I walked into the salon, I was put at ease. Ed Simon, the salon owner has implemented procedures are above and beyond any cleanliness protocols that I could have imagined. And as usual, my stylist, Tracy made me feel like a million bucks with a freshened up look. This is a very comfortable and safe salon environment. Andrea G.

A couple months ago I got my hair colored and cut by a stylist there who has been doing hair for 14 years. Needless to say I will never return to this salon, she didn't blend my color so it looked like I was trying to grow my highlights out and gave me the worst haircut I have ever received. I showed her a picture of what I wanted and she did the complete opposite.

The cut was uneven, the layers didn't blend and she only framed one side of my face, I guess she gave up on the other side. I have been unable to style my hair since it happened and had to live with my hair half up. You shouldn't have to tell a hairdresser that you want everything to blend (color and cut), especially with how much they charge for their services!

My five year old niece could have given me a better haircut. To respond to the owners comment: I do not have the wrong salon, I went to your salon Mystique Hair & Skin and my hairdresser was Lisa

Decided to try this place based on the great yelp reviews and I was not disappointed! I had a balyage done by Megan and I have never been so satisfied with the outcome. Was very honest about how light I could get my hair with the first session and eliminated all copper tones from my hair. So so so happy with the job she did and will definitely be back for touch ups!

Beautiful salon, always great service. I have seen multiple stylists but most frequently go to Brianna for my cut and styles (~$45 normally), I have also had her do blowouts with curls for formal occasions. I have lived in the area throughout college and now permanently for the past 3 years, and have always jumped from salon to salon. Once I found Mystique 2 years ago, I haven't gone anywhere else.

One time my stylist was running late when I arrived, and the salon offered me a free deep condition treatment while I waited. Always a great experience and I would definitely recommend.

Love this salon! My stylist is Tracy, and she does an excellent job with my cut and color. She never rushes and yet she is always prompt with her appointments. Nothing annoys me more than making an appointment and having to sit around and wait for a half hour or more - my time is valuable to me! I highly recommend the salon in general, and Tracy in particular.

Hello there! This is not my first review for this incredible salon! I recently went there to refresh my highlights, take care of my roots and get a new hair style. Have you ever walked into a hair salon and left it the way you pictured yourself even before calling to schedule the appointment. If you haven't.well, this is the place to go to! I am from Europe and for seven years have been looking to find her. Jane. my hair soulmate! Thank you Jane, Thank you Mystic Hair for making me too look the way I want and even better!

I've been going to this salon for 7 or 8 years. My first stylist was great, and when she moved away she hooked me up with Jane. Jane is always ALWAYS great! I have super thick and coarse hair that is curly, and never had a bad cut. She can straighten it and curl it and always listens to what I want. She gave great advice when I started coloring my hair myself, and now that I started getting highlights from her I'm super happy! I always get compliments on my hair and best of all, I really trust that Jane will do great work.

Just got my hair cut here for the first time by Brianna! She did an AMAZING job. I am so happy with the result it is exactly what I wanted. It only took like 30-40 minutes, we started right on time and it was reasonably priced!

Tracey is the most awesome hair stylist in my book. Always a friendly atmosphere and she knows my hair. I've gotten cuts, coloring, Brazilian blowouts and all have been perfect. Would recommend tracey to anyone. Been going to her for 10 years.

Sorry to say my experience at this salon was on par with my last experience at The Hair Cuttery. The salon itself is nice, the stylist was friendly, however I was extremely dissatisfied with the cut itself based on the price and the reviews I've read on this salon. I came in prepared with a clear vision of what I wanted and several pictures to show the stylist.

I asked for significant length cut off, long layers and a side bang that blended with the layers. I left with a very insignificant trim (hair still long enough to touch the small of my back when I had asked for more than a few inches taken off), an awkward side bang and probably the absolur worst blowout of my entire life. The worst part is that I really did try to help the stylist get it right.

I understand that they may be hesitant to cut too much off or to go too deep with a side bang for fear of an upset customer, but when I have to be the one to point out that you didn't blend the bangs in with the rest of the hair, when I have to tell you that the awkward 1/4 inch chunk of hair you cut to my chin doesn't resemble a side bang (much less what I showed you or described when I first got in the chair) it becomes kind of a joke. I regret choosing this salon and I will not be returning.

I gave this review because of a disturbing phone call from the owner last night. I have been going to this salon for about 6 months since it is conveniently located near my place of business. I was not overwhelmed with my stylist but I could go home and recut the front and sides of my very short hair and thoguht all was well. At my last appointment I asked Stephany if I could show her how I like the hair cut to frame my face and asked if I could use her shears.

She handed them to me I I showed her. Well, my phone call 4 weeks after this visit from the shop ower was about how Stephany is 'uncomfortable and afraid' to cut my hair because I 'grabbed' her sissors from her. I was told it was like a patient grabbing a scalpel from a surgeon. As a shop owner, I would not want to loose a $20 tipping regular customer.

If this girl was 'uncomfortable' cutting my hair, why would he just not have said that Stephany felt she was not pleasing me and suggest I try another operator? Shame on this salon, had my old hairdress not moved, I would NEVER have had to try a new one. I am a 63 year old woman who is not in the habit of behaving the way Stephany portrayed me.

I found it nearly impossible to find a salon in the area offering balayage so upon finding Mystique, I booked immediately. I requested Megan after noticing she was the only one trained in balayage color. Megan was booked for the next 3 weeks, which I actually took as a good sign meaning that she's normally busy. The wait was worth the while! Megan listened to my vision about the color/cut, was extremely confident in her abilities, and offered great conversation the entire 2.5 hours! (The conversation is normally something I dread.awkward small talk with someone you are trusting with your life).

She mentioned that she paints as a hobby, which is why she loves the free form art of balayage. Truly incredible results and it felt like I spent the time catching up with an old friend. Two reasons I deducted a star: 1. Very pricey compared to the same services at my last salon, which is an upscale place in Hoboken so I definitely didn't expect Mystique's services to top that. 2.

The salon wouldn't allow me to tip on my debit card; cash tips only. I got by with the cash I happened to have in my wallet but felt horrible I couldn't leave more considering the amazing experience I had with Megan. They should be clear about the policy when booking an appointment!

Told me they knew how to do curly hair for a wedding. Did not. My bridesmaids did their own hair after one of the stylist told her "maybe you should do it". Ridiculous. Just found out now because my bridesmaids didn't want me to be upset on the day of the wedding. But finding out later is still very frustrating since my bridesmaids paid a lot of money to have their hair messed up and ended up having to fix it themselves.

If you have curly hair, go someplace else. Other than that, they were a friendly staff who got most of us in and out of there in good time. The owner was very helpful and accommodated a last minute bridesmaid who wanted make up, but had originally said no to make-up. Squeezed her in. But, my two bridesmaids with curly hair had to stay longer to fix their hair.

The makeup artist I had was great and very helpful. All of my bridesmaid's makeup looked great. My hair stylist wasn't very patient and I had to ask her three times to pin my hair down so it was even on both sides, but she eventually did it when I asked again in the make up chair. My mom asked if my hair in the back was supposed to be loose and when we asked the stylist she seemed frustrated and was short with us.

It was a busy day at the salon and she had another client, but it seemed like other stylists had better attitudes. Overall, a minor thing that was annoying, but did not ruin the day. We got a lot of compliments on our hair and make up.

Love Nancy - great stylist and lovely to work with. She's personable and great at what she does. I give the salon 3 stars because every time I come in the place is freezing (but no other stores in the mall are). It's winter and when you have wet hair it is frankly pretty miserable. :( Management - please turn on the heat in the winter!

I went in for my second appointment to Mystique. The first time was a year or couple before today and that was a just a simple haircut/trim which came out fine. But today I went in to get some peekaboo highlights. I've had a vision for weeks. I haven't dyed my hair in 10 years but I was sure of what I wanted to do when I went in today. I explained to Tracey, who is a master stylist, my vision.

I told her I wanted subtle, natural looking highlights, peekaboo style and only on the bottom half of my hair. She immediately said she was going to go with a caramel color, and I have natural jet black hair (I'm indian). It was about 3-5 minute talk. Honestly, I thought she was going to show me swatches of colors or something. She comes back, and I re-explain what I want because I felt intimidated the first time, especially how I told her I've had bad experience with hair colorists before and during our 5 minute conversation I told her i wanted two shades lighter than my hair. Caramel is not two shades lighter than jet black.

It would look like stripes in my hair. --i.e. a bad experience I had in the past When she came back and I re-explained, she said she had no idea what I was talking about (in a stern manner) and she wanted a picture of what what I told her. In front of her I googled on my phone 'subtle natural highlights for black hair' (literally what I already told her).and showed her a picture.

She goes "oh thats ombre". Well. Okay. From what I know ombre isn't peekaboo lights. When you look up ombre, it looks different from what I was seeking. I was so confused. Maybe I was asking too many questions, but I was trying to go to a master stylist to help bring a new dimension to my hair, while also steering me with some knowledgeable options. Im 27, a flight attendant.

Born and raised in NJ. I know enough about hair and I had a vision. She made me feel like I didn't know what I was talking about. I was told me to come back when I understand how much coloring it takes to get that vision done and suggested a site to see. I didn't feel guided, wasn't given options and felt like I was rushed. Feeling rushed when I care about how my hair looks and comes out, was probably the worse thing. I came in looking forward for a new style, but I left disappointed.

I had my first appointment at Mystique this past Wednesday evening with Megan for a shampoo, cut and blow dry/style and also wanted to discuss color/highlight options for a potential future appointment. The receptionist was very friendly and I felt very welcomed. The salon is very nice and it was rather quiet Wednesday evening. Megan was on time and I was in her chair at my scheduled time.

She was very thorough in her consultation for my cut and made sure we were on the same page before shampooing me. Our conversation about color went well and I felt that Megan understood what I am wanting. I walked out of the salon with a beautifully style haircut and an appointment scheduled in two weeks for color. I look forward to getting back in Megan's chair for my color!

I loved this place! I made an appointment with Jane, as recommended by the very sweet receptionist, to donate almost two feet of hair. Jane was exceptional - after carefully braiding and cutting my hair for donating, she spent ample time perfecting and styling my new haircut, patiently allowing time for my mom to take pictures of the process. The appointment was about an hour, but only cost $42 (without tip)! I am in love with my new haircut and plan to return when I need a trim. Overall, Mystique is a great salon with affordable prices with friendly, welcoming staff.

I've been here twice. The last experience wasn't good so I won't be returning. I made an appointment with one of the stylists that was recommended by a friend. When I got in for my appt, I was told she was unavailable, even though I had specifically requested her. The owner was very apologetic, and I needed the haircut that day, so I agreed to let another stylist, Nancy, cut my hair.

I told her not to cut my face-framing layers above my chin, but she cut them up to my ears. By then, it was too late to do anything, so I had no choice but to cut the other side that short as well. It was still uneven and at that point, I didn't trust her to continue evening them out, and left with choppy front layers. I was unhappy with the entire experience that day. The first time I went, I had Sarah and she gave me a good trim. The salon is very affordable compared to other places in Princeton.

I've been to Mystique three times now for haircuts since moving to the area and in need of a new hair stylist. The salon is in the MarketFair Mall in Princeton, so it's a nice location to get to and find parking, and the salon is decorated nicely. I think once I was asked if I wanted any water or something, but I know I wasn't asked during my most recent visit.

The prices are also pretty good for a nice salon, especially compared to the ones I saw quoted for other Princeton area salons (with tip I paid around $50-60 each time and I have fairly thick, long hair). The first two times I got my hair cut I saw Jane, who was very nice. She was able to give me pretty close to the haircut I was looking for (not exact, but not terribly off).

The next time, however, I saw a different girl because I made a last minute appointment (which, as a side note, it was nice that I was able to make such a last minute appointment). This time I saw Stephany who was nice and listened attentively to the hair cut I wanted, but I was disappointed later on with the attitude she gave off when I asked her to shorten the layers a bit after I saw how my hair looked dry.

She did go ahead and shorten them for me, but the entire time she was finishing up, I felt like I had asked her for something outrageous and felt almost guilty! Not a nice feeling when I was paying for a service and even left her a generous tip afterwards (since I did get a nice haircut in the end). Overall, my experience at Mystique was okay. Thankfully I never got a terrible haircut or anything, but I never left 100% in love with my hair, so my search for THE salon/stylist for me will continue.

I was able to get an appointment quickly, which is good. Their website has a lot of detail about the stylists - also good. I went on a Saturday morning, and it was busy -- there are a lot of stylist stations, and they were pretty much all full, which made it feel a little too crowded. I know, crowdedness is probably a sign of success for some. It has been a couple of weeks since my haircut, and the cut is totally serviceable.

The things that are often problems with my hair unless I get a really good cut are still problems. It's not the kind of cut where you can tell it was done recently and well, but it does its job. Hopefully it will at least grow out well. I did love the oil that was used on my hair at the end. There are a ton of stylists here, so I'm sure that the quality and satisfaction are going to vary from person to person.

My cut was less expensive than I often pay in Princeton (note: must tip in cash -- they couldn't add it to my card), but I'll probably keep looking around for better, even if it costs a little more.
