Monique is the Loc Doctor! She's amazing! And while Tamika is the one who calls her that, Tamika is amazing at what she does with micro locs too! I enjoy my time there every time I go. I'm always taken care of in a timely manner. And these ladies are just really fun to be around. Such an inviting atmosphere here!

Professional and prompt service. The stylists I've dealt with communicate in a way that is respectful and properly manages my expectations so that we are both happy with the outcome. ****Update**** They charged me more than their basic service to braid two dry (for time, at my request, my hair was not washed) cornrows in my hair. I enjoyed my and my child's time there, but we are no longer customers. Downgraded star rating. 12/18/21 Update Maybe that was a weird day or misunderstanding, but most services now turn out the way I would like and the communication has improved, though I still do not know how to communicate with them between appointments. I am happier with their service. Updated star rating again.

Hannjah's was the best! Being the first time I came here, I was very impressed with the service. The salon is so cute and I could have stayed there all day just because it was so relaxing! I definitely recommend Natural Resources to anyone looking for a new salon without all the drama. I'm very comfortable with coming back here and making this my hair salon. The prices were very reasonable and they offer services for natural hair care, and I love it! Bianca

I had my first appointment a couple of weeks ago with the owner of the salon, Ms. Tamika. The maps app on my iphone had me driving in circles! Thankfully, I spotted her standing outside, because I probably would have continued to drive past the salon. I haven't gotten a professional trim in over two years and I had enough of the single strand knots messing up my hairstyles.

I had deep conditioner marinating in my hair initially, because I knew she was going to use a blow dryer in order to give me a good trim. She went ahead and rewashed my hair with shampoo and conditioner (from her own hair care line). Then left to let the conditioner penetrate my hair for about ten minutes. Once rinsed, we went back to the salon area, so that she could start the blow drying process.

We talked about hair products and the benefits of certain ingredients for our hair. From our conversation, I believe she is very knowledgeable on all things relating to hair. Which explains why she is so successful! I explained to her that I want healthy hair, but I didn't want to lose my length. So she semi-dusted my ends. I felt like I lost a good amount of length, but my ends felt so much BETTER!

When she was finished, she twisted my hair up into a cute updo that I absolutely loved. I most likely will return for another trim in six months to ensure that my hair is on the right track.

I tried to give Natural Resources Salon, now known as Apothecary Hair Care, another chance, and boy, do I regret that decision. I scheduled an appointment a month in advance with Durriyah because, despite my less than desirable opinions of the owners, Durriyah is a great stylist. I was disappointed to learn that she was leaving before my scheduled appointment; that was my first red flag.

The second and third red flag was I could only communicate with the salon via text and I had to prepay for my service in full instead of simply giving a deposit. Then I learned after I proactively followed up via text that my name was not in their system although I paid in advance and booked my appointment a month in advance during the week of Thanksgiving.

Once my appointment was finally confirmed, I was moved to a different stylist twice, a fourth red flag. Up until then, no one asked about what type of hair I wanted, so I texted again to choose my hair and learned a few days before my appt was scheduled that I needed to prepay again for my hair, a fifth flag raised. At that point, I wanted to cancel, but since my appointment was a few days away and scheduled during the week of Thanksgiving, I kept it. Tamika, the owner, followed up with me finally with a phone call and said I had a choice of buying the hair myself or having the salon provide it, so I chose the latter and was told I could pay at my visit.

Two days later, she texted to say she needed the money for the hair by 2 pm. When I began asking her questions about the price and how confusing this process was, she curtly canceled my appointment, saying she didn't have a stylist to do my hair. This place is crazy. If I could follow Durriyah, I would, but I would not recommend becoming a client here.

Expect inconvenience, inconsistency, and unprofessionalism. I told Tamika I preferred she purchase the additional hair for me (a cost I agreed to pay) but she didn't like that (although she gave me the option) and when it was down to the wire and she asked that I get it myself, I said I can't to which she responded, "You can't or you won't?" That is totally unacceptable customer service, and it disheartens me that this business, once a gem of Third Ward, has lowered its standards and quality of care. Take your business elsewhere. I'm glad I did.

I love this place! I like the earth tones of the rooms and the comfortable home-like setting. Parking is accessible and close to the entrance. Both Durryah and April are my stylists and do and excellent job with the natural two-strand twist and are very patient with my hair, as I have a lot if it! The hair products are excellent, as they are made with natural ingredients and they smell great. The prices are also reasonable, considering the amount of time that is spent with you. Try it, you will like it!

I visited NHR 3-1-2017 Paulette was my stylist / there was another young lady that started my hair process but i do not remember her name. I must first off start by saying i will give the two 5 stars alone. Both ladies were very good, warm sense of humor. my experience was quite a experience. I came in one week for the consultation with Tamika the owner.

We went over the plan for my hair. I was introduced to extension to fill in my problem area (the dome of my head ). I must admit i was sold. I had to purchase the hair from NHR cost me $104. I came bk the following week in the middle of the week because there wasn't any availability for Saturday until the second week of April per the receptionist.

I was told my hair process would take 3/4hrs, so i decided i will go to work from the Salon. It took 6 hrs for to dye my hair, shampoo, condition, braid and crochet, rod roll my hair. So i missed a whole day off work. My hair was nice once it was completed. Again Paulette and the first lady that did the dye shampoo /conditioner and braid. Did a great job other then the timing.

The next day when i was out with my husband, he noticed that the hair texture was different. I was told that it would blend with my natural hair. A couple more days past it got even more noticeable. So i message 3-9-2017 Tamika to let her know and sent a pic, she asked if i can come by so she can see the hair. 3-10-2017 I drove from The Woodlands where i stay to down town to show my hair. she decided to go with some more hair. so i would have to make another appointment to come bk in and have the hair switched out. which the next available again is not until April in order for me to come on a non working day. since the commute was so long and the scheduling is so off i decided im going get braids because i need my hair done.

I message Tamika this Saturday 3-18-2017 and explained it to her and asked if i can just turn in the hair, I have and the unused hair because it was a lot of unused hair left. in replacement just mail me some hair care products to make up the amount i spent $104. Which is basically just given out as a waste. She never replied. she read my message and never replied or gave me a new solution to accommodate my needs.

I spent a total of $104 for hair and $179 for my hair to be done totaling $283 just for a tappered look. I really didn't even need the extensions from the get go if you look at the pictures. I love to support Black owned business but i do not like to be ripped off. I'm truly not happy. If you go here you will see the work is great. However be advised know exactly what you need done and do not be sold by something extra you do not need.

Firstly, the environment is extraordinarily professional. When I called last week, Rachelle (sorry if that isn't spelled correctly) answered the phone and i scheduled my appointment with such ease. I hadn't gone to a new salon in a long time and was extremely nervous and felt immediately better after talking to her. When I got there I was able to get the 2 hour beauty blowout and it was so nice!

I was made to feel comfortable and Barbara truly took care of me. She talked me through the entire process of my trim. The products used left me smelling fantastic and my hair is so soft and so happy. They really know what they are talking about and provide a reassuring, professional, and calming experience. Can't wait for my next appointment!

Amazing salon! I had not had my hair touched by a professional in over three years. I was nervous, to say the least, but from the phone call to schedule my appointment to the time I walked out of the door, I was pleased! Marissa took great care of my hair (I got the 1hr wash/condition/blowout/trim) and the products she used left my hair soft and silky. The salon itself is spacious and professional. There were a variety of stylists working with natural hair and it was a beautiful sight. I will definitely be coming back!
