I would not recommend this stylist. I cannot say salon because her business is operated inside of an owner's salon. Tonya is stuck in a time capsule of doing today's hairstyles. I did not get the service I wanted. In fact she did my hair how she wanted, because I feel she does not know what she's doing at times! Try less talking and you tube lessons.

As well being quick to video something on her phone "just in case" for all sorts of reasons. She need to stop thinking she know it all. It doesn't matter your years of experience you say because we always learning however if its true your 20+ years you have then it will show without saying.

Can't recommend Ms. Tanya enough! Not only will she give you a stunning hair service but she will teach you tips and tricks along the way. I've never had to wait to be served and she always provides excellent service and customer care. 10/10

There was nothing different about this salon. Nothing stuck out for me, though they were very clean there and had a nice set up. I believe the owner of the salon was the one who did my. Its been a few months since I have gone. I decided to give myself some time in order to have a clear review without hostility. I will be honest though. My first visit I came for a simple blow out.

I stated that when I called and as a reminder message to let her know I was coming that morning. I spoke with her directly, not another member of the salon. When I came in, it was about 9am. Very early as I liked. She only had 1 client in her chair, and looked at me as if I was not meant to be there. There was no one waiting mind you. Just 2 clients (including me).

She barely said hello. Then demanded I hang up my coat, instead of introducing herself. I let her know I had an appointment and I waited. Then she told me who she was, and she was the person I had spoken with. Long story short. I was at this salon for 4 hours. She took 3 clients who seemed to be family and friends and seemed to have forgotten me in the back after a wash.

Her son was there helping as well, as she claimed she was short staffed. 2 other workers were there besides her son. He was very lovely. She seemed to yell at him often which I took as disrespectful. There are better ways to handle family who work with you, and she failed. Moving on. My Hair style. She cut my hair. I did not tell her I needed a cut.

As she blow dried it, she asked about a trim. I said no, as I had previously had one 2 weeks prior and wanted to wait. She then decided to start cutting my hair anyway. I knew I should have stopped her but my head was down and I was distracted by my daughter. Once she started, I just let her continue. I didnt want any negativity and figured since it was my first time, I'd let it go.

I literally spent 4 hours that day there, and paid $90 for a simple blow out (on medium-short NATURAL Hair), that came with an unexpected hair CUT/"trim!" I went a second time. I attempted to give her the benefit of a doubt as I thought maybe she really was just short staffed the previous visit. Long story short. SHAME ON ME! I spent 2.5 hours there.

Most of it was in the back room once again. I don't believe she manages her time well. My hair mind you is not very long at all. Her attitude was a tad aggressive but then again that is her salon so who am I to judge. She doesnt give tips on what you can do to protect your hair, and she didnt recommend anything for mine. Perhaps I didnt need it but still its good to do.

I will probably never return as it was very pricey in the first place. Money is never a matter, when you have good product performance and a good experience i.e. You walk out proud and feel beautiful because your hair looks amazing and makes you feel good. It just wasn't worth it to me. I thought I'd try someone new near home (Spyce) but it did not work out.

We are currently in lock down so I have not been to a shop lately, but I have since returned to my old hair salon in Algonquin. They always have my blow outs in and out done within an hours time even with clients, and my hair feels like feathers and makes me feel good. Oh and the prices. I've NEVER spent more than $65 and thats including the tip. The location is similar to Schaumburg, and in a booming area but perhaps that is why prices are different too.

I have been going to Spyce hair salon every two weeks for over two years. Everyone I know says my hair is the most healthy it has ever been. I have not permed my hair in over 6 years and she is able to style my hair in both curly or straight styles with ease. My hair is so healthy and moisturized. Tanya is the best, most knowledgeable stylist I have ever had.

She does not keep you in the salon all day, she is professional and knows what she is doing. If your looking for a stylist that is knowledgeable about all hair types and focused on the health of your hair do not hesitate to call her.

Tanya is very rude. I had my hair done there twice, and both times she acted like she didn't want to be bothered. The salon posts hours of operation, but does not adhere to the hours. Just rude. That is the main point. results are average. You can spend a little time and drive out to a more reputable black hair care salon. Not sure why the 2 black salons in the burbs that I am aware of - are so damn ignorant to the customer.

This is why the black community doesn't support black owned businesses long term. Very rude, and not customer service driven. I get wanting to make a profit, but at the expense of service? This place is horrible, and uncomfortable to be in - when you feel like the owner does not even want you there. She has a huge attitude, and does not care about customer feedback.

Her crappy attitude has gone back to before I had a kid. More than 5 years. If Tanya is still being rude, and cavalier about new customers, she isn't going to change anything now. Don't waste your time unless you want to be made to feel like you don't deserve to get your hair done in this person's salon.

I absolutely loved my experience at Spyce. I am on my way to jamaica as a graduation gift to self. Amber hooked me up. Check them out! I don't believe you will be disappointed and very reasonably priced. All services are available.

The stylists here are very friendly and professional. Amber did my cornrows and they turned out beautiful! My hair is a few inches past my shoulders and she was done in under 45 minutes. Would definitely cornrow again.

The barber Steven has very little customer service. Each time I go to get hair cut. He was a no show or overbook. Appt at 12. He had a client in the chair he finish up at 1230 then another guy set in the chair. My appt was at 12. No sorry I'm running late or anything.i got up an left without saying anything. I refuse to pay for bad service.

The owner I believe constantly complained about my hair. It was a first time visit and last. She even mentioned you probably won't come back, of course not with the bad service. She made my hair look decent but the experience was horrible, I felt belittled. The charge for a color, trim, blowout and flat iron was $140.way too overpriced.

The barber Steven is not professional and has not customer skills. He don't show up for schedule appointment s and over book clients. Don't apologize for running late or being late. I tried twice and walk out on both appointments. It's very hard to do business with young people. He need to grow up and learn how to take care of business. I refuse to give my hard earn money for bad service.

My wife and I are caucasian and we adopted a two year old son from Africa. Obviously, we are new to the world of African hair care! Spyce is nice modern salon and they go out if their way to make you feel at home. Steve did a great job cutting my son's hair and offered great pointers along the way. I hope they will be a great resource to my family in the years ahead!

Having lived in the northwest burbs for several years & traveling to the city a few times each month for a cut, I was reluctant to try a new barber despite my girl's suggestion to try a local barber who worked at the salon she frequented. Sure it was closer to me & I would've saved a lot on gas but I was used to my former barber and didn't want to switch.

But after a long days work, I got tired of the hour-long drive to have to sit & wait for a 20 minute cut only to turn around & drive right back. Ultimately, I agreed to take her up on the suggestion to try someone new. That was about 7 years ago & Nate's been cutting my hair every since. He's excellent at fades, locs & everything in between.

His technique is precise plus he's efficient & professional. And after years of getting the same cut, he even convinced me to change it up. It made a huge difference in my appearance, I trust Nate to keep my fade up & refer anyone in the area to definitely try him out.

So, I found out about Spyce from Ericka L. I saw Janean on Friday and one word to describe her "honest". She saw my hair and said "whats up with your ends? They are a mess!" I attempted to plead my case and she gave me a hair cut :- Now my ends are NOT a mess.thanks Janean! The salon is not that large but they have used the space very wisely. I love the color and I really enjoyed the conversation.

I got the impression that this place was a lil like cheers where everyone really did know your name. It may seem that I have found a new IL salon. Thanks Ericka L! One last note: the salon accepts credit cards but NOT every stylist does.

My stylist Janean works here. I like the shop a lot. It is very funky, colorful and the music is always jamming. The shop has 3 beauty chairs and 3 barber chairs. The conversations are always interesting and funny and I just like the overall appeal. Good location, not too far from my house. Janean has been doing my hair for a LONG time! She used to cut my mom's too until my mom moved to GA.

Sometimes when I haven't been taking care of my hair AND I haven't been to see her I must get prepared to get yelled at! I'm not saying this is everyone's experience - I'm her baby and I get personalized attention! She just REALLY cares about her clients having healthy hair. That's it. She's serious about that and I love her for it. Oh, and boy can she cut some hair. She's awesome! AWESOME.

Very nice staff, the salon was very clean, and the stylists were very knowledgeable on how to style all types of hair and yes including African American hair. I definitely will become a regular client. Also if you must bring your children the stylists will make accommodations and also they provide snacks and beverages.
